Halloween masks may look scary intentionally in order to be cute, but the unfortunate fact is that on occasion, kids’ Halloween costumes can truly be scary in that they are dangerous. In fact, several children have been injured when they have been wearing Halloween costumes that were not safe.
As your childs protector, you need to know what dangers may be contained in these harmless and fun looking costumes, purchased for children every year when Halloween comes around. In this guide, you will be introduced to the most common dangers associated with kids Halloween costumes.
One of the most common dangers of Halloween costumes, especially in regard to kids, is that many of these outfits still are not fire retardant. It is true that many manufacturers of kids Halloween costumes are certainly taking the time to make fire retardant costumes, but many still are not.
It is up to you to protect your child and make sure that his or her Halloween costume is indeed fire retardant. Fire is a common part of many Halloween celebrations, including bonfires, candles, cookouts, or roasting marshmallows. And because many Halloween costumes are loose and flowing, it’s a pretty simple supposition that it wouldn’t be hard to get a sleeve caught in a flame. And unfortunately, if the costume is not fire retardant, your child can become engulfed in flames in an instant. So make sure that your child’s costume is absolutely marked as fire retardant before you buy.
Another issue that comes up that can be dangers is that oftentimes, Halloween costumes may not fit your child properly. If it is too large or too small — and it often can be, including the Halloween mask that comes with it — this can present a danger to your child.
With Halloween masks, make sure they are not too big or too small. Your child should be able to talk, smell, see and breathe easily in the mask. A better option than a facemask is to go with face paint instead, since you will not have to worry about it blocking your childs vision, etc.
When it comes to clothing, the child should not experience a limited range of motion. They should not wear costumes that drag on the ground. These types of clothing may results in accidentally trips and dangerous falls.
As you can see, there are many dangers that you should know about kids Halloween costumes. Knowing what to look for in advance will prevent your child from experiencing any of them.
